Beyond Ordinary Travel
An Aberdare National Park safari transports visitors into a high-altitude world of ancient forests, dramatic waterfalls, and rare mountain wildlife. The park spans 767 square kilometres across the Aberdare Mountain Range in central Kenya, rising from 1,829 metres to a peak of 4,001 metres at Ol Donyo Lesatima. It is one of Kenya’s most ecologically diverse parks. The Aberdare National Park safari experience is defined by its lush afro-montane forest — home to the rare Eastern Bongo antelope, forest elephant, black leopard, giant forest hog, and the endangered Black-and-White Colobus monkey. Karuru Falls, one of Africa’s tallest waterfalls at over 300 metres, cascades through dense forest on the park’s eastern slope. The Salient — the lower forested area — is where most wildlife viewing occurs, while the moorlands above 3,000 metres offer dramatic hiking and trout fishing in mountain streams. The famous Treetops and The Ark lodges sit within the park, offering overnight wildlife viewing from elevated platforms above lit waterholes. Aberdare National Park safari is approximately 2.5 hours from Nairobi via Nyeri.
